Tripoli, Libya was, and I hope still is a beautiful city. Always something happening. The white buildings and city walls next to the blue of the Med and the clear blue sky takes your breath away. Date palms sway to the sound of the surf. Donkey carts still an important tool working along side modern trucks. The camel drivers would bring their charges past our house every morning and again in the evening! A land of terrific contrasts! The sand is as fine as baby powder the smell of tea cooking over an open fire
Giorgimpopoli Guy's and Joe's hamburgers(hard buns)... French fries & ice tea at the NCO Club on base (tea was FREE)... The Swan Restaurant...
The Bowl-arena (camel-burgers?)... And just what was the name of the night club downstairs?
ALMA MATER
By the shinning coastal waters Stands a school so true. Wheelus High, our Alma Mater, Banners white and blue.
Wheelus High School, Wheelus High School, Loud her praises we tell;
Wheelus High, our Alma Mater, School we love so well.
Gently are the palm trees swaying With the sands of time. Wheelus High will live forever In your heart and mine.
